Google Adwords vs. Facebook Ads: Which is best for your business?
Marketers are constantly increasing their budget, reserved for digital advertisements. According to Statista, total revenue in the Social Media Ads segment amounts to USD 32,327 Million in 2017.
The Major two competitors for digital ads are Google Adwords and Facebook Ads. Now the question is, which is best for your business and why?
The answer depends on your business type and industry. If you’re selling something with lots of visual appeal to a specific audience, Facebook is for you. But if you are promoting a Local Business and you want to attract audiences while they are shopping, Google is the best bet for you.
Here’s a brief overview of their specialty in different aspects of online marketing.
Targeting:
Google Adwords: Google PPC is based on keywords. It shows ads of your business to the huge amount of visitors who are searching something related to your business. That’s why it is suitable for targeting a wide range of audiences.
Facebook Ads: If you want to target an extremely specific group or audience, then Facebook Ad service is for you. Furthermore, narrowly targeted audiences, result in reduced advertisement costs.
Local Business:
Google Adwords: Google suggests directly to the user who is looking for a particular service or product. Thus they can benefit from the local business through Google Maps.
Facebook Ads: Facebook helps local businesses the most. They show ads to your specified radius around your business. And users around that radius will see your ads on Facebook no matter whether they search it or not.  In result, they get to know about your business even if they don’t require your service at that moment. They are referred to as the seeds for future.
Pricing:
Google Adwords:  Google Advertisement pricing is also different for separate industries. Google only charges for Cost Per Click (CPC). Approximate average CPC is given in the image below.
Facebook Ads:  Facebook Advertisement cost is different for individual industries. The image below shows advertising cost respective to CPC and CPM. CPC is the cost per click to your website, and CPM is the cost per 1000 impressions or views of your advertisement.

Engagement:
Google Adwords: Google has review and rating systems to give the users a brief idea about the brand. But users cannot interact with the business directly.
Facebook Ads: Facebook allows users to interact directly with the brand representative through messaging, comments and shares. Users can also review the products on Facebook.
Ad quality:
Google Adwords: Google ads are just plain bold text. Though they are straightforward and simple, they are efficient in engaging visitors to your advertisement.
Facebook Ads: You can post Graphics, photos or an entire carousel for advertisement. These additions can make your ad fancy rather than boring plain text. It drives the audiences to your advertisement.

From 2012 to 2016, percentage of total amount spent on Facebook advertising is 17.1%, 19.9%, 22.1%, 25.1% and 27.3% where percentage of total amount spent on Google advertisement is 22.2%, 21.7%, 23.1%, 29.2% and 31.6% in total digital advertising value each year in the UK. This statistic shows that Google is on top of the advertising market, but the increasing rate of Facebook definitely indicates towards some special features that force the people to spend money on advertising their business.
