Conversational UI and Its Importance

Even if you don’t know about Conversational UI, you might have heard about it in a discussion, especially when talking about Google Home, Alexa, Facebook Messenger bits, etc. But what is a Conversational UI? Well, usually, people give their command to a machine by pressing or touching certain switches or buttons. It is neither a natural way of communicating nor a human way to deliver your message. That’s why Pioneers in technology and gadgets tried to set up a new, more natural, and human-like way to give commands to machines, which is why Conversational UI was pitched.

What is Conversational UI?

Mainly, we understand Conversational UI as being like a chatbot that can take your command and execute it without going through switches and handles. Instead, we can use natural text that we use to communicate with people and even our voice to make the UI understand our requirement. You will feel as if you were talking to a human this whole time when, in reality, you are giving a command to a machine.

This is more human-like than anything in the modern world and that’s why people are really excited about it. Giant companies like Google, and Amazon are adopting this UI and bringing out new products for you.  Google Home and Amazon’s Alexa are such voice activated UIs. Besides, Google Assistant and Facebook chatbots are text command activated Conversational UI that you can instruct with simple plain text.

Why is It Important?

Conversational UI or not, people are already investing millions in advanced technology, just to make our life easier. In the process, we are getting hundreds of new inventions every week. But Conversation UI is not any kind of regular day-to-day invention. This advancement in tech and gadgets is revolutionary.

Think of yourself. When you needed to set up an alarm for the next day, you had to go to the Menu and scroll for the clock or alarm setting. Then you had to type the date and select the time. And then you had to select am or pm before saving the alarm. This is just too much work for a simple alarm.  But now, with Conversational UI integrated to your home setup and clocks, you just need to say, “Set alarm for tomorrow at 6 am” and you are done.

You can even send text and call someone using the Conversational UI on your device. Even some of the websites are using this type of user interface to facilitate a user’s experience with them. Microsoft is using a virtual assistant to help solve any problem with their system via their website. It will not only save them the queue in customer support, but also their customer’s problems will be solved in an instant.

Apart from saving time and effort, Conversational UI mostly helps people with sight or hand disabilities. Now a blind person can make calls without dialing the wrong person. He/she just need to say their name and add the phrase call;the receiver will hear the ring. Even if you don’t have any disabilities, this type of interface will surely make it easier to do the day-to-day tasks without even looking at your device.

So,it’s no wonder why web developers are integrating their sites with Conversational UI.
