Google Wallet And Android Are Coming Under Google Play
Google has recently decided to get its act together and unite all its payment methods under one name, Google Pay. Now, instead of having to worry about independent services that dealt with different payments, users are now given everything under one brand to help reduce some of the clutter and headache that comes along with multiple payment platforms. Moreover, you can use Google Pay to not only pay for online shopping, but in the real world too.
What’s happening?
This rebranding brings together the previous Google Wallet and Android Pay systems used on most of Google’s platforms, especially Google Play. This helps ease confusion and prevents the two Google sub-brands from competing. There have been times in the past where Google Wallet was a direct competitor to Android Pay, thereby harming each other.
The rebranding also comes with a refurbished app that adds to the already functional skeleton of the previously known Android Pay app. The ease of access to its services has also been significantly improved. as well as performance. This means setting up a Google Pay account with your bank isasmooth process and you can quickly start using your smartphone to pay for things out in the world in addition to the usual online platforms, notably Airbnb.
Fandango has also been a significant partner to this project wherein their platform is working closely with Google to ensure the transition goes smoothly, going as far as to offer special discounts on purchases made using Google Pay. All of this has helped Google become a stronger competitor to the likes of Samsung Pay and Apple Pay. And with proper marketing and good promotion, it might exceed its competitors and become a preferable service.
International opportunities
However, India remains a largely untapped market due to a lack of demand for NFC enabled devices and e-commerce solutions. However, Google has decided to keep pushing with its Google Tez in the local Indian market.
Competition from fellow tech giants
Current users of Google Wallet or Android Pay will not need to worry about any functionality changes. After the update, you are still logged in with your current credentials across all the services under Google, so making any necessary payments will not require you to login or reenter your credentials again.
What the road ahead holds for Google Pay
In essence, mobile payment methods are still in its infancy. Google aside, there are various other competitors, some of which are offering newer and more interesting features for using their service. Although it was a good move by Google to unite both of their main e-commerce platforms under one roof, they will have to compete with already established giants like Apply Pay and namely Samsung Pay.
Even though most Samsung phones run Android, they utilize Samsung Pay and not Google’s default services, therefore pushing Google Pay to Samsung users might be a bigger hurdle. However, in the end, things are only looking positive for Google with these changes.
